There is a story that says that when he would perform for these people, aristocrats, nobles and high society in general he would be calm and kind and very personable. Yet he was popular for his music, most of which wasn't what he wanted to play and did what he could to get by.

He was more or less the only one of his family and blood left, he was driven from his home and forced to hide who he was and play his music for people who couldn't care less. It's probably another reason I felt a connection as a child. A celebration, a renewal and finally at the end of the storm, peace. But we can choose whether to be afraid or to embrace it for what it is. That the rain will come, whether we are ready or not. That's what this piece said to me as a child and even now.

Yet while he still felt fear and uncertainty in the face of the unknown just like all humans do, I believe that he was also in a way at peace with it as well. Having heard that this was probably his very last piece he wrote before his death made me believe, just from the tone and the way the music flows, that he was very much aware of his own impending death. It's comforting, soothing, yet also has a life and unnamed emotional turmoil. I had to have been very young because I remember this song from some of my earliest memories. It seems like it was probably the first classical piece I ever really FELT. I don't know how or why, but this song is so familiar to me.
